The strEATs is a personal photography project that brings together two things I’ve always loved: street photography and food.
The idea is simple. I head out with a camera, explore a town, city, street or neighbourhood, and photograph the small moments that catch my eye — the light, the people, the signs, the shopfronts, the textures, the movement, the little details you only notice when you slow down and look.
Then, somewhere along the way, I find a place to eat.
It might be a café, a pub, a restaurant, a bakery, a street food stall or somewhere completely unexpected. I photograph something of the place — the food, the atmosphere, the building, the details, and the area around it — then print a small selection of images to celebrate it in a more tangible way. Something real to hold onto, rather than another fleeting tag on social media.
Some of the prints are given directly to the owner, chef or team. Others might simply be left to be found.
Left behind for you to find.

I’ve spent years photographing food professionally, but I’ve also always loved the freedom of street photography — walking without too much of a plan, reacting to what’s in front of me, and finding beauty in ordinary places.
This project lets me bring those worlds together.
Food is never just food. It belongs to a place. A street. A community. A person behind the counter. A chef in the kitchen. A table by the window. A moment in someone’s day.
The strEATs is my way of exploring that connection.....between food, photography and place while also creating something physical in an age where most images disappear into a screen.

If you’ve found one of my prints, hello.
That photograph was taken, printed and left behind as part of this project. It might be a street photograph from the area, an image of the food, or a small visual memory from the day I visited.
You’re welcome to keep it, share it, or get in touch and let me know where you found it. I’d genuinely love to hear from you.

The project will also become a YouTube and Substack series, following the process behind each visit.
The videos will be looser and more personal than my Dining Fables work. They’ll be part photography vlog, part behind-the-scenes project diary, and part exploration of food, streets and creative process.
The content will include:
I’ll take the camera out into different towns, cities and neighbourhoods, showing what I’m looking for, why certain scenes catch my eye, and how I build a small story from a place.
Each episode will involve finding somewhere to eat and using food as a way into the area. Not necessarily formal restaurant reviews, but visual stories about places, people and the experience of eating there.
I’ll share what I’m learning and thinking about as I shoot — composition, colour, timing, light, framing, storytelling, editing and how to become more observant with a camera.

I’ll also talk about the kit I’m using, including my Nikon Zf, lenses, editing setup, and the small portable printer that makes the whole “leave a print behind” idea possible.
A big part of the project is the final print. I love the immediacy of digital photography, but I also love that a printed image becomes something real — something someone can hold, keep, pin up, pass on or discover by chance.
The strEATs is about looking closer, eating well, making photographs, and leaving something behind.
You can follow the project on YouTube, Instagram and Substack — and if you’ve found one of the prints, I’d love to know where it ended up.
